Header Specs:
This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ¼” with any collector size up to 4” or our collector muffler up to a 5” size. The design has 2 tubes on each side that go around the frame. The engine needs to stay in the stock location. The header will fit side motor mounts or motor plates. This header will fit any mini starter except a CVR and will not fit a factory GM full sized starter. It has approximately 3” of room at the bottom of the oil pan for kicked out sumps. This header is designed to be used with a skinny drag racing type front tire for maximum turning radius. We held the header and collector up as high as possible for maximum ground clearance, if you will have a large exhaust system we have a chrome moly replacement transmission cross member for added clearance. This header will fit a power brake booster, but your master cylinder brake lines will have to be rerouted. It is not intended for use with an air conditioning box on the fire wall, clutch linkage or column shifter linkage.
Header Installation:
If you are going to be using your inner fender wells they will have to be trimmed to clear the tubes around the frame. The best way to accomplish this task is to mark a reference point on the fender well measuring from the “A” arm then remove the fender wells. Once the headers are installed use your reference mark and the “A” to measure from to determine the opening for header clearance. Make the opening large enough that the header can be taken in and out.
Before trying to install the headers lay all the tubes out on the floor to orient them to their proper position.
Driver side, install #1 and #7 from below, snug the header bolts only do not tighten them. Next install the center pair these are the tubes that go around the frame. Then install the collector and go back and tighten all the header bolts.
Passenger side will be the same sequence #2, #8 then the center pair. You may have to remove the starter, be sure to reinstall the starter before the tubes are bolted in place.
Refer to our header installation tip’s page for additional information.
